CAMK1-mediated phosphorylation of ARHGEF7 (Beta-Pix) at serine S516 enhances guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) activity of ARHGEF7, leading to RAC1 activation. RAC1 and its downstream effector PAK1 are involved in NMDA receptor activity-dependent synaptogenesis (Saneyoshi et al. 2013).
