Endogenous human FOXO4 forms a complex with endogenous human ATXN3 (Araujo et al. 2011), a deubiquitinase involved in protein homeostasis, transcription, cytoskeleton regulation and myogenesis (reviewed in Matos et al. 2018). ATXN3, however, does not deubiquitinate FOXO4. FOXO4 is not recruited to ATXN3-containing nuclear inclusions in spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) (Araujo et al. 2011).
