Based on studies in mice, MECP2 binds to the promoter region of IRAK1 gene, encoding a serine/threonine protein kinase involved in activation of NFKB-mediated transcription. MECP2-mediated regulation of IRAK1 transcription may be specific to cortical neurons (Kishi et al. 2016).
