The perilipin 1 (PLIN1) gene is transcribed to yield mRNA and the mRNA is translated to yield protein. Liver X receptors (LXRα, NR1H2,3) up-regulate basal human adipocyte lipolysis partially through NR1H2,3 binding to the PLIN1 promoter and down-regulation of PLIN1 expression (Stenson BM et al. 2011). By selective knockdown of either NR1H2 or NR1H3, NR1H3 was found to be the major isoform mediating the lipolysis-related effects of NR1H2,3. The Reactome event of NR1H2,3-regulated expression of PLIN1 is inferred from the analogous event regulated by a synthetic NR1H2,3 agonist GW3965 (Stenson BM et al. 2011).
