Binding of the RUNX1:CBFB complex to the interferon gamma (IFNG) gene promoter stimulates IFNG transcription. If FOXP3 is present in the complex with RUNX1, the IFNG gene transcription is inhibited. Suppressed IFNG production is one of the hallmarks of regulatory T cells (Tregs) (Ono et al. 2007).
