PTK6 (BRK) binds a large RNA processing nuclear complex that contains SFPQ (PSF) and phosphorylates SFPQ on C-terminal tyrosine residues. PTK6 also phosphorylates at least two additional SFPQ-associated unidentified proteins.

PTK6-mediated phosphorylation disrupts SFPQ binding to RNA and may promote the relocalization of SFPQ to the cytosol and cell cycle arrest (Lukong et al. 2009).
