Cytosolic GOT1 (glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase 1, also known as aspartate aminotransferase 1) catalyzes the reversible reaction of aspartate (L-Asp) and 2-oxoglutarate (2OG, alpha-ketoglutarate) to form oxaloacetate (OA) and glutamate (L-Glu) (Doyle et al. 1990). Crystallographic data show the enzyme is a homodimer (Holt et al., 2018).
