AKT- or SGK1-phosphorylated MDM2 residues S166 and S188 are in the vicinity of the MDM2 nuclear localization signal. MDM2 phosphorylation by AKT or SGK1 leads to MDM2 translocation from the cytosol to the nucleus (Mayo and Donner 2001).
