TP53 (p53) directly stimulates transcription of the AIFM2 (AMID) gene upon binding to p53 response elements in the promoter of the AIFM2 gene. AIFM2 encodes a mitochondrial outer membrane protein implicated in caspase-independent apoptosis (Wu et al. 2004).
