Under starvation conditions ULK1 undergoes dephosphorylation, particularly at serine-639 and serine-758 (Shang et al. 2011). The S757 unphosphorylated ULK1 is able to associate with, and be activated by, AMPK (Egan et al. 2011). The protein phosphatase(s) involved in ULK1 dephosphorylation are currently unknown (Wong et al. 2013).
