SCAI forms a ternary complex with MKL1 and SRF, inhibiting the transcriptional activity of the SRF:MKL1 complex. SCAI negatively regulates cancer cell invasion facilitated by the SRF:MKL1-mediated transcription downstream of RHOA and DIAPH1, and therefore acts as a tumor suppressor (Brandt et al. 2009).
