As inferred from mouse, the phosphorylated BMAL1:CLOCK (ARNTL:CLOCK) heterodimer binds a noncanonical E-box in the promoter of the PER2 gene and activates transcription of PER2. NPAS2 is predicted to act redundantly with CLOCK.
