Dimeric ZnT8/SLC30A8 mediates the transport of cytosolic Zn2+ into the lumen of the Golgi apparatus. The protein is expressed in human pancreatic beta cells and localizes with the Golgi apparatus and insulin-containing secretory granules (Bosco et al. 2010; Chimienti et al. 2006; Kambe et al. 2021; Chimienti et al., 2004). SLC30A8 utilizes the antiport of two protons to achieve electroneutral transport (Xue et al., 2020).
