The smallest fragments HYAL2 can generate are 20kDa (approximately 50 disaccharide unit) HA fragments. These fragments are internalized and delivered to lysosomes (Knudson et al. 2002, Erickson & Stern 2012) where another hyaluronidase, HYAL1, can degrade them further.
