The role of chicken lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP) remains unclear. Inspection of the chicken genome showed no ortholog of human LBP (Keestra et al 2008), and LPS induced the functional activation of heterophils without the presence of LBP. Nevertheless, in the reaction shown here we annotated hypothetical chicken LPB using the data and suggestions reported by Kogut et al. (2005), that LBP and CD14/TLR4 induction is directly involved in LPS-mediated functional activation of chicken heterophils.
