The carbamoyl-phosphate synthase (glutamine-hydrolyzing) activity of cytosolic CAD hexamer catalyzes the reaction of glutamine, 2 ATP, HCO3-, and H2O to form carbamoyl phosphate, glutamate, 2 ADP, and orthophosphate. The chicken enzyme is known only as the product of an open reading frame inferred from genomic sequencing; all molecular details of the reaction are inferred from its human counterpart.
