Cytosolic malate dehydrogenase catalyzes the reaction of malate and NAD+ to form oxaloacetate and NADH + H+. While a cDNA capable of encoding a protein similar to mammalian cytosolic malate dehydrogenase has been identified, its protein product has not been functionally characterized and this reaction is inferred from its human counterpart.
