The N-terminal domain of ATG7 recruits the E2-like protein ATG10 (Kaiser et al. 2012, Yamaguchi et al. 2012). Biochemical data and modeling suggest that recruitment of ATG10 to the ATG7 N-terminal domain results in presentation of the ATG10 active site to the ATG7-ATG12 thioester linkage from the opposing monomer in the ATG7 homodimer (Klionsky & Schulman 2014).
