MAP3K5 (ASK1) phosphorylates and activates MAP2K4 (SEK1) (Ichijo et al. 1997). MAP3K5-mediated phosphorylation of MAP2K4 may be facilitated by MAPK8IP3 (JSAP1) (Matsuura et al. 2002).
